Your Home In Yorkshire

Recently fully converted Heather Corner boasts a great deal of individual styling and flair to create a truly outstanding holiday home, ideal for couples and small families.

About Our Cottage

Our little cottage, has been part of a 5 year plan. We bought this little house on Prospect Street March 2016, with a view to her becoming a holiday cottage and thinking she didn’t need much doing to her! What sold it to us was her location - half way up the hill and 2 minutes from the famous cobbles of Haworth and most importantly she had her own drive! Something very very rare in Haworth is to find a cottage with its own drive. I mean when she was built 150 years ago the main mode of transport was a horse and cart - or in Yorkshire dialect ‘an orse ’n’ cart’

Nothing needed doing? An understatement of the year - we totally gutted her - walls down, ceilings down, chimneys down... the lot. Have a look at the renovation here! Then started the renovation and building her back to what you see today. This took us a whole year to do this and we opened our door to guests in April 2017 and lovingly called her Heather Corner.  We didn’t know at the time but 2 owners back she was owned by a lady called Heather! Our reasoning was more the heather moorland Haworth is surrounded by.

So turn the key and what do you find?

We decide to go for a more modern / contemporary look than the traditional Victorian. Most guests enter via the side door - this takes you straight into the kitchen, which has plenty of storage for our guests it is equipped with an electric cooker, fridge with a freezer box, slow cooker, toaster, kettle and a breakfast bar that benefits from the morning sunshine. From the kitchen there is access to a cellar - just by the side door, which is ideal to store cycles safely, great if doing the Tour De Yorkshire route. Or to keep the odd bottle of wine chilled on the original victorian stone slab.

From the kitchen you move into the lounge - which has a dining area and seating for 4 people.  There are also two sofas arranged round a feature ingle nook fireplace, (uncovered in the renovation). There is a Freeview television, DVD player, numerous DVD including The famous Railway Children and more recently the BBC drama Walking Invisible  - about the famous Brontes which was actually filmed at Haworth whilst we were renovating the cottage. We have also include numerous books which has to include our Bronte ladies literary accomplishments - Wuthering Heights, Villette, Jane Eyre, Agnes Grey to name a few plus the making of the film The Railway Children. (Which at the time I write this I can confirm the Railway Children Return is being filmed in the village and due to be screened April 2022 - all very exciting).  We also provide further tourist information leaflets, walks and sample menus of all the local pubs, restaurants and take aways. There are two main features on the walls - one is a quote from Charlotte Bronte and the other is a painting straight onto the chimney of the the famous trees at Top Withens (Wuthering Heights). This is a talking point for many a guest and in particular to try and find a love heart from the artiste to us,  Heather Corner and our guests!

Moving upstairs you will see a huge feature radiator to warm your cockles in the Yorkshire winters and we uncovered a fabulous stone wall. There are two bedrooms - one is a twin overlooking the back of the property and the neighbours gardens - this gets the morning sunshine and is a very bright room - great for putting your makeup on! There is plenty of drawer storage and a hanging space for clothes.

The main bedroom is extremely spacious with a king size bed, plenty of storage and hanging area for clothes. Again another quote, from Emily Bronte this time is above the bed. Plus more stone walling is exposed to make a feature.  Both bedrooms have a hairdryer and a torch ( just incase there is a power cut).

The bathroom is a modern 3 piece suite including a pea shaped luxury bath with a shower over head. There is a large towel radiator, wall mirror and shaving mirror .

Outside our cottage there is a lovely private gravelled seating area around the back. Which houses various potted plants, a lovely water feature and a chiminea . Together with a 5 piece bistro table and chairs. Outside lighting means guest can sit out into the evening relaxing infront of the fire.

Moving to the side of the property there is another seating area which takes in the late afternoon sun - great after a long walk over the moors to chill with a cool Gin and Tonic. There is also a boot box which can keep walking boots safe and dry. Plus of course this is where your vehicle can be parked on the drive - safely tucked away from passing traffic and right on your doorstep.
